Bandai SDGO Nu Gundam Heavy Weapon System and Booster Bed part 1

All right, it has been quite some time since my last review. This review will have less picture quality because I do not have any digital camera in hand.  So let’s start with the SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Action Figure, the Nu Gundam Heavy Weapon System and Booster Bed.  I shall let most of the picture to do the talking in this review, (how lazy of me, hahaha).

The Box

Okay, start with the box; it is plain black box with English names.  Unlike any other SD GO Figures out there, which has window boxes and has lots of pictures, this one is closed black box, with no hint of what is inside aside from the writings on top.  The paper quality is not so good; it is thin paper box which is easily broken.  Bandai is going cheap way on the box.

The Inner Tray

Inside you have the plastic tray, which again is made from low quality and cheap plastic.  It get crushed easily, and almost done nothing to protect the content. But since the content itself is quite sturdy, no damage was made to the figure itself.  As you can see, it contains, The Nu Gundam figure itself, 2 beam saber, 1 Big Guns, 1 Beam Riffle, 1 Bazooka, 1 Gigantic Shield, 1 Nu Gundam Standard Shield (hidden under the Big Shield), the Fin Funnel, and armor parts for the Heavy Weapon System.

The Gundam itself, just standing alone is a great view.  The design is simple but unique, that is why I love Nu Gundam.  Standing just without the equipment already shows the glory of it. It is a nice figure overall.  But since the color of this Gundam is mostly white, it looks plain since no detailing on the panel line.  And also the plastic was made from cheap hard plastic, makes it totally look like a toy.  Bandai does a lot of cost cutting in this figure line.  If only they use better material as previously.

Limited tilting motion, compare with the pic below

Limited tilting, and plain Vernier Thruster

Articulation is standard; the head surprisingly has a bit up and down articulation aside from horizontal movement.  Other SDGO figures that I had have only horizontal movement.  Even with the limited tilting articulation it can give better action on the figure display.

The upper arm has 360 degree movement, the elbow also has 360 degree horizontal movement and 90 degree bends.  Quite enough for an SD figure.  The waist also has cut joint, the ball joint on the hips and ball joint on the feet.  Even with all this joints I felt that the SD Gundam Model kit has better movement, since almost all the joints are obstructed, and require a hard time to adjust.

Leg Thruster Cover

Other simple feature is the leg thruster’s cover has a very very limited movement.  Almost unrealized at the first time if you do not notice it carefully.  The eyes have very nice detail, a main feature in the SD GO line.  But the paint job on the mouth piece is sloppy on mine, and you can see the paint brush mark with shades of black underneath it.  The rest of the white plastic parts are not painted, it was molded in white and they left it as it is.  The paint job also has a lot of places they miss, such as the Vernier Thruster on the shoulder, which supposed to be painted yellow, and in this one they were white, plain white.

Look at all those holes

Holes for front HWS Skirts

Check those holes on the shoulders

On the back of the figure, you can see lots of screw holes.  But since I will not display the Gundam backside then this should not be a problem.  Aside from screw holes, there are lots of plug holes everywhere on this Gundam.  These plug holes are used to attached the HWS equipment later on.  Some of them may not be too obvious, but those like the ones on the shoulder top really disturb the view.

With the entire standard weapon attached, the fin funnel, hyper bazooka and the shield, the figure is totally back heavy.  But with the right adjustment on the feet, which is design quite big to accommodate the heavy load, the Gundam can stand up straight.  But with a little nudge, then it will immediately lean back.

An All White Funnel

Shield Detail and weaponry

The weapons themselves was detailed well, but the paint job and the finished was somewhat lacking, especially on the shield forward face which is plain plastic white without any paint.  The other obvious one are the fin funnels which is just plain white.  Everyone knows Nu Gundam has black and white fin funnel, and Bandai let this one of with just plain white.  Lazy cheap Bandai.

So here is the standard Nu Gundam with its weapon attached.  We shall continue with the HWS system in the next post.
